Your host's Carol and Steve Christmas both moved to Whangarei in 1964 We met each other in 1972 and married in 1975.
Over the years we have lived in Whangarei, we have learnt many things about our city and it's surroundings and like to pass this knowledge on to travelers as they stay.
Both Carol and Steve joined a local Rotary club (Whangarei South Rotary Club) and we are very active helping the community in projects through this Rotary Club.It is through this Rotary club and the Rotary student exchange program that Happy Valley Lodge was conceived.
We started by having students stay with us from all over the world and wanted them all to feel that this home was a "Home away from Home", the local Polytechnic had overseas students that needed a good home.
We saw a need for good affordable accommodation and Happy Valley Lodge was born.
We have enjoyed the company of people and families from overseas and local New Zealanders who have chosen to stay with us for either a short or long stay whether they are holidaying or working.
